Back in June of 2000 the classic known as Deus Ex was released to the world. Later on that year Ion Storm introduced us to the software development kit - the tools used to make the game. The Deus Ex modding scene was born and quickly began to thrive.

I met Denis through IRC back around 2002. We bonded over the beautiful music in DX. During the peak of the modding scene, he ran a mod called Skyward Fires. And like most ambitious Deus Ex mods, it fizzled out over time and was not released. One thing for certain is that he captured the mood of the Deus Ex world and blended that with his own unique style. Denis did a lot of work in the modding community making music for a number of full-scale mods to some multiplayer maps, and just making music for fun.
The IRC network we were on had gone through a buyout and the domain had switched to a different name. Around that time was the last I heard from Denis. I figured he never got the memo about the IRC switch and we just lost contact with each other. Around 2011 or so I found a video on YouTube for 'Ice Gust' and it had a music video produced for it.

At the end of the video it stated:

In 2013, a friend of mine lent me an hour on his weekly radio show to talk about Deus Ex mods, where I told this story and played through some of my favorite songs by Denis. At the end of the segment I made a comment about wanting to release something of his online. Well, here we are. I’m offering this album for free to get his music out there for those interested. A lot of this stuff was never heard and doesn’t exist anywhere else. I never knew Denis personally outside of online life, but here’s to you – your music lives on!

The mods that Denis produced music for unfortunately were never finished or released to the public. However, Deus Ex: Nihilum will feature some of these songs in its upcoming 5th year anniversary DLC update. Please check it out on moddb and enjoy this music with it's intended gaming atmosphere!
